Saying Hi!

Howdy folks, just a short note to say hi, and how enthusiastic I am about this show! I directed the show in 2004 at Elizabeth College in Hobart, which was a massive success and I enjoyed watching it every show (7 of them), great music and loads of fun. Then as the director/co-producer, I did it again early this year for the Hobart Summer School, which had previously put on Les Miserables Student Edition. This time I also played Corey Senior! Again, it was a huge success, my particular favourites being Walking on Sunshine, I'm Gonna Be, Time of My Life and Footloose. But every song is fantastic! I find it very interesting that the songlist changes overseas, why is that? Anyway, gotta run, peace out!!

I expect it's either got something to do with paying artists' royalties in different countries, or simply the fact that songs that are (were) popular in one country aren't necessarily popular in another, so they were cut/changed.

I've just played Mr Cocker in a production, was fun. Though I played Les Mis School's Edition too as Valjean. I'm afraid Les Mis is definately the better production (one has to admit that the storyline in B280's is somewhat lacking). Did you direct that as well?

Yes I did direct the Les Mis Student Edition too, and indeed it is a better show, but lets face it, Les Mis is, in my opinion, the greatest musical ever written! Btt80s is just a fun piece of fluff, and I think I even advertised it as "Dont think too hard about it, just enjoy it!". I have never had the opportunity to perform in a production of Les Mis, but it is a goal to one day play Valjean (not old enough yet, realistically) or in fact to play anyone, Thernadier, Marius, Enjolras, anyone!

Hey there Sunderland. Sorry its taken so long to reply, been doing....stuff.... so, Lionel eh? Well, he gets to sing a bit of Love Shack at the start of Act 2, and just like all mean jocks in 80's movies, gets his come-uppance at the end, when the nerd, Feargal, scares him away! I'm not going to give you the full run down but suffice to say, the good guy gets the girl (Corey gets Tiffany), the nerd gets the new girl (Feargal and Eileen), the bad guy gets Karate-Kid-Kicked unconscious (Michael by Feargal!) and its one big happy ending all round. You will have a blast doing this show, never a dull moment! Peace, from Tasmania!

SO much fun, my best memory of that school!! course, i was only there for 6 months before moving, but still, it was awesome. we were able to purchase our show on video, but unfortunately, i had left by that stage so missed out... which is a shame, cuz i'd love to see it, lol. i've only just discovered the site & this forum, so needless to say, i am quite excited about it all, haha

My school happens to be doing it too (after loosing Oklahoma for some reason). I'm playing Alf Bueller...it's quite dismal, I'll put it this way, everyone who is involved HAS a part (no extras) It's getting shown on 20,21,22 march it's gonna be great. Just saying hi!, also i hate my line where I do the whole baseball thing -_- Also they cut don't worry/come on eileen my only song :P

I think the fact that eveyone in JohnCM's production having a part is great! The show is so much fun that everyone should have the opp to be 'a part' of it.  As for the baseball line, that is a fab line, you just need to go for it dude! It's the eighties, it's America and remember it was acceptable in the 80's. Go for it, the more dramatic the better!

Hello biggrin
Our school finnished our production of Back To The 80's on the 22nd of June 07 having begun it on the 20th of June 07.
I speak on behalf of every single person in the cast, we Had a Blast!!!
I'm incredibly sad after the show finnishing, and I think we will be hard pushed to find a better production.
I played Mr Cocker, Stevie Danger Cocker that is, and Centerfold was incredibly fun to do. Losing the plot on stage, Good times =]
The 500 miles scene was hillarious, along with the Dream in Glory Of Love, as we had a skipping Darth Vader. The boy who played Fergal McFerrin III got the loudest cheer from the entire audience, and had the cast in stiches in the rehersals with his accent.
Everyone not mentioned did amazing aswell.
What a bloody good show!!

''These memmories will be in here forever. Have fun guys''

SMILE 80skiid =D
Don't be embarrased about anything you do.. Just remember its not you thats on the stage, metaphorically speaking, its Miss Brannigan!
If you have even half as much fun as we had even during the rehersal phase, then I'm sure you all will have a ball!

Thanks...i'll keep that in mind when i murder 'Total Eclipse of the Heart'! lolz! I'm doing it with a youth musical society that are pretty good, and have done many productions. Although, i have only been with them for around 6months, and have no experience whatsoever, apart from Mary in the story of Bethlehem!!!

It is amazing good fun! Everyone is loving it! What about you? Who did u play? How long did it take you to rehearse and stuff??

Hey there everyone! I'm getting ready to start rehearsals for this show on June 9. We don't really have an audition, it's a summer camp type thing, and they'll cast within the first couple of days. I'm hoping for Eileen, but I'd be happy with any part. Could anyone who might be able to give me some info (voice ranges?) e-mail me at hyperactress23@yahoo.com? Thanks in advance!
